Lisamobile is an electrically powered, microswitch-controlled mobility device with special "Hi-Low" features for use by severely handicapped children up to age 10. It was designed for a totally amelic child, Lisa, who uses the cart inside and outdoors.

The Lisamobile has the following features:

  1. Mainframe was constructed around an A-BEC kit consisting of two motorized rear wheels powered by a rechargeable 12-volt gel-cell battery pack. To allow for flexibility and wheel independence and to reduce vibration over outdoor terrain, a set of leaf springs was used for front-wheel attachment.
  2. Seat consists of an infant car seat mounted on an electrically powered four-bar-linkage assembly. The seat can be positioned between the floor and a 64-cm height.
  3. Controls. Driving speed and direction are facilitated by a proportional, chin-controlled A-BEC control box. Another control box, located on the left, consists of five toggle switches for activation of the electric motor drive controlling the four-bar linkage, safety gate, horn, reading light and on-off switch.
  4. Special Features: For safety, limit switches allow driving only in the middle positions of the seat. If seat should hit an obstacle, the cart stops automatically. An override switch attached to an "umbilical cord" allows on-off control by an attendant. A rear-view mirror, horn, reading light and tool box including fuses complete the system.

Design drawings will be furnished upon request.
