Camp-Workshop for Adolescent Amputees: An Interval Report

BEVERLY DIURBA, LPT, GAY GREGG, OTR AND WILLIAM L. GREEN, MD*Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

In 1977, Mary Williams Clark, MD, and others reported to the Annual Meeting of the Association of Children's Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics initial experience with a campworkshop for adolescent amputees. Since that report the camp has continued to mature. The purpose of the updated report is the hope that by sharing the experience, camp-workshops will develop in other communities.

A camp environment is now available for the adolescent amputees of western Pennsylvania. The camp enjoys increasing support from both the professional and the nonprofessional community. During the past year, 26 campers, 25 counselors and six food preparers participated in the program. All, including those involved exclusively in planning and administration, have been enriched by the experience.
