New Myoelectric Control System

The UNB Bio-Engineering Institute has developed a new system of myoelectric controls and accessories to supersede its 1982 series. Based on two new electronic modules, customized one-site controls are available for Systemteknik and Steeper hands. Units for other applications and two-site controls are being developed. The options of both internal and external battery are supported, and a fast charger is available for internal batteries. The system is fully compatible with the new modular powered prosthetics component line available from Hugh Steeper Ltd. A microprocessor-based trainer is offered which facilitates site selection, training for either one-site or two-site systems, and adjustment of the new controls as well as earlier UNB models. Special features of the new controls include greatly improved electronics performance, ease of fabrication for the prosthetist, and improved appearance resulting from extensive use of injection molded components, including the outer housings which comprise the distal forearm section.
