Medical and Environmental Management of a Quadrimembral Amputee: A Case Study
RAYMOND LOVETT, M.D. AND JAMES LYNDS
Case study will focus on an 8-year-old quadrimembral limb deficient child who has been followed at the Area Child Amputee Center since 1985. The child has adjusted exceptionally well to her handicap with the assistance of environmental modifications and electro-mechanical devices, many of which have been developed by the patient's grandfather, who is an engineer.
The orthopedic surgeon will present a summary of her medical management. The patient's grandfather will present a review of her home modifications including an electronic device enabling computer use by the patient.
Presentation will show what can be done with simple, easily available electrical mechanical devices to increase independence in the severely handicapped.
