Prosthetic Coloring Book
BOB RADOCY, M.S., AND GERALD STARK, B.S.M.E.
Prosthetic science is foreign to most persons not involved in the medical profession, especially children.
The manner in which children are introduced to the subject has bearing on their acceptance of the concept, as well as the artificial limb itself.
A coloring book is in development, which allows children to explore prosthetics from a non-threatening, play perspective. Animal characters are used to introduce children to the nuances of prostheses. Coloring pages, mazes, puzzles and matching games present the child with an informative but subtle introduction.
Functional and cosmetic prosthetic concepts are explored to illustrate that certain devices are designed to emulate limb function but not necessarily mimic anatomical form.
