Traumatic Amputations in Children

0ne hundred eleven traumatic amputees were reviewed, including their sociological and psychological aspects. Two classes of traumatic juvenile amputees exist. The first includes those in which the traumatic incident was a happenstance. The second includes those for whom the traumatic incident was the outcome of very significant psychological and sociological factors, particularly well illustrated for those amputations occurring as a result of a train accident or a cycle injury. The level of amputation and concurrent prosthetic and surgical difficulties encountered in the post injury management of the population were illustrated.
