Suction Lipectomy in PFFD

A child with PFFD who had had knee fusion and amputation had increasing difficulty in socket fit because of excessive fat in the proximal portion of the amputation limb. A decision was made to proceed with suction lipectomy in an effort to reduce the circumference and thereby permit better prosthetic management. Suction lipectomy was performed, reducing the circumference of the limb considerably, following which prosthetic fitting was definitely facilitated. The child is now 2 1/4 years post suction lipectomy and getting along very well.
