Aqua-Flex-The Pediatric All-Plastic Knee Joint

This paper will describe the design and development of a unique knee joint for pediatric amputees.
The "Aqua-Flex" is an all-plastic knee with an internal extension assist made from carbon-reinforced acrylic resins and of exoskeletal design. It is waterproof, easy to clean and has low maintenance. Initially designed for recreational use, it can be used on a daily basis as well.
The presentation will review design criteria, fabrication techniques and summarize the trial-fitting results, patient and parent feedback.
