Van Nes Rotationplasty: Solving the Difficult Fittings

The Van Nes Rotationplasty has been a viable alternative to amputations, which require mechanical knee joints for decades. The malleolar and subtalar axes used as a knee has provided both P.F.F.D. and sarcoma Van Nes users with a degree of function far above that of their trans femoral counterparts. In most cases, this procedure results in problem free fittings but occasionally accompanying conditions render the Prosthetist with challenging problems to be overcome in order to provide the client with a comfortable, functional and cosmetic prosthesis. This paper will examine various complications in the fitting of a Van Nes prosthesis and the trouble shooting process which results in the desired level of comfort and function.
